Frequently-Asked Questions (the ones I anticipate)
How large of an image can you print for me?
The Epson 9800 I use can take papers up to 44 inches wide, giving you a potential image width of 43 inches. Since I purchase Epson's and Hahnemuhle's papers on 35-foot rolls, the 98-inch limit to your print height (which I established for reasonability's sake only) could conceivably be ignored.
What ARE giclee prints?
The giclee printing process utilizes UltraChrome pigment inks and archival papers to produce prints that are estimated to last 80 to 120 years before there will be a detectible color shift in your image.
Frequently-Asked Questions (the real ones)
What do you need from me to print my prints?
I need your digital file (which you can upload via this website, or send via US mail to 2703 7th Street, Studio 109, Berkeley, CA 94710. (on cd or dvd)
What file formats can you accept?
TIFF, JPG, PSD, and most camera raw files. TIFF and PhotoShop (PSD) files are recommended. If your file is a JPG file, avoid continually opening and resaving it, as this will degrade your image. I can read raw files (.NEF, .CRW, .MRW, .RAF...) ... actually, I can read just about any file that PhotoShop can handle.
Do you offer a quantity discount?
If you are ordering five or more prints of the same image, a discount is applied to the ink calculation of each print.
What coatings do you use on your canvas prints?
If I print on Sihl Artist Canvas for Framing, I use CR-24 u.v. protectant (in either a gloss or low-gloss finish) If I print on Breathing Color Brilliance canvas, I use the Glamour veneer that Breathing Color has had manufactured for that particular canvas. Note: I'm often asked about the exact chemical make-up of both coatings. I'm afraid proprietary rights mean I've been unABLE to get a complete break-down. I CAN provide you with the chemical sheet (listing potentially-harmful ingredients) that each company is required to make available.
